Collecting waste around school

The CE 2 A and B classrooms went around school to collect waste.

Here's the result of their "research"...

Bin bags put down on the pavement without respecting the schedule.

Hundreds of cigarette ends thrown away by careless adults...

Burying Wastes in the ground

The CE1 classes have selected and burried different wastes. Strange experiment !

The 6th of May 2013, the pupils burried an apple...

a glass, a plastic bag...

... a paper bag, a banana, a metal can.

And the 13th of June, they took a look at it.

The apple is rotten but the glass is still the same...

... nothing happens with the plastic bag, but the paper bag has turned in little pieces..

... the banana has disapeared and the can lost its colors.

Au début du mois d'octobre 2013,

les élèves ont déterré les déchets enterrés

au mois de mai.

At the very beginnig of october 2013,

the pupils have a look at the burried wastes.

La canette est restée la même. Le bocal est resté le même. Le sac n'a pas changé.

The can, the glass pot and the plastic bag

are still the same.

BUT :

the apple, the banana and the paper bag

have completely disapeared !

Using a Compost bin with earthworms at school

To recycle the organic wastes, it is possible to use a compost bin. We've done it at school. Look at it !

this is the compost bin...

... the black juice of decomposition...

...with organic wastes from home...

...and earthworms.

Pupils collect and filter the "juice" to make fertilizer.

Here we are !
