I was fascinated by the story that I heard in Pruno, a village located beneath Monte Forato, where I spent three wonderful days camping with the students of class 5th B in Tonfano. During the summer solstice, the sun seems to go through the hole of the mountain, and since I have to leave for England, I want to see the day of the solstice among the megalithic stones of Stonehenge. According to a legend, in the past, people worshipped the sun and were able to communicate with it. One day, a group of followers wanted to build a temple to worship the sun. The sun directed them to a small forest by the river where they could find wood. By the next day, they managed to build a Woodhenge. The sun was pleased. After some time, the sun got stronger. She found that the Woodhenge was not good enough and instructed them to find stones up north, to build a henge made of stone. Hence, the devotees travelled to search for the sacred stones. After having found the stones, they destroyed the Woodhenge and constructed the Stonehenge. The sun loved their love for her. However, one day the sun discovered a long avenue of stones racing to the river. Being puzzled, the sun questioned the stones: “Where are you heading to?” The stones then replied that they hoped that they could help spread the sun’s good doings to other parts of the world via water route. The Stonehenge was also built for this purpose such that descendents could know the sun’s good deeds.

Sono rimasto affascinato dal racconto che ho sentito a Pruno, un piccolo paese che sorge sotto il Monte Forato, dove ho trascorso tre bellissime giornate in campeggio con gli alunni della classe 5ªB di Tonfano. Il sole, durante il solstizio d’estate, sembra passare attraverso il foro del monte e siccome devo partire per l’Inghilterra, voglio  andare a vedere il giorno del solstizio fra le pietre megalitiche di Stonehenge. Una leggenda narra che in passato, le persone adoravano il sole ed erano in grado di comunicare con esso. Un giorno, un gruppo di seguaci voleva costruire un tempio per adorare il sole. Il sole li indirizzò verso un piccolo bosco vicino al fiume, dove avrebbero potuto trovare della legna. Il giorno successivo, riuscirono a costruire una Woodhenge (legno sospeso). Il sole era contento. Dopo qualche tempo, il sole era più forte. Trovò che la Woodhenge non era abbastanza bella e mandò i seguaci a cercare delle pietre su a nord, per costruirne una in pietra. I devoti viaggiarono per cercare le pietre sacre. Dopo aver trovato le pietre, distrussero la Woodhenge e costruirono la Stonehenge. Il sole apprezzò il loro amore. Un giorno il sole scoprì un lungo viale di pietre che correva al fiume. Perplesso, il sole interrogò le pietre: "Dove vi state dirigendo?" Le pietre risposero che speravano di poter contribuire a diffondere le buone gesta del sole in altre parti del mondo, attraverso la via dell'acqua. Stonehenge è stato costruito anche per questo scopo in modo che i discendenti potessero conoscere le buone azioni del sole.
