THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES (CAMINO DE SANTIAGO)

The Way of St. James is one of the most important Christian pilgrimages. Legend holds that St. James' remains were carried by boat from Jerusalem to northern Spain where he was buried on the site of what is now the city of Santiago de Compostela. It was also named one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The scallop shell has long been the symbol of the Camino de Santiago. THE ALHAMBRA OF GRANADA

 

Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, AndalusiaSpain. It was constructed during the mid 10th century by the Umaid Arabic ruler Badis ben Habus of the Kingdom of Granada in al-Andalus.

The palace consists in many buildings and rooms with different functions. The park, which is overgrown with wildflowers and grass in the spring, was planted by the Moors with roses, oranges and myrtles. The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the inspiration for many songs and stories. JOTA

 

The jota is a genre of music and the associated dance known throughout Spain, most likely originating in Aragon. It varies by region, having a characteristic form in Aragon, CastileNavarraCantabriaAsturiasGaliciaMurcia and Eastern Andalusia. Being a visual representation, the jota is danced and sung accompanied by castanets, and the interpreters tend to wear regional costumes.

For their interpretation, guitarsbandurriaslutesdulzaina, and drums are used in the Castilian style, while the Galicians use bagpipes, drums, and bombos. Theatrical versions are sung and danced with regional costumes and castanets, though such things are not used when dancing the jota in less formal settings. LA MANCHA

La Mancha is a natural and historical region located on an arid but fertile, elevated plateau of central Spain. It’s famous for it’s windmills.

 

CAMP NOU

Camp Nou is a football stadium in Barcelona, which has been the home of Futbol Club Barcelona since 1957. It’s the largest stadium in Europe and the 13th largest in the world in terms of capacity. It has hosted numerous international matches at a senior level, including two UEFA Champions League finals and the football competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

FONT MÀGICA

The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, Font màgica de Montjuïc, is a fountain located at the head of Avenida Maria Cristina in Barcelona. The fountain was constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. The Magic Fountain was designed by Carles Buigas, who had designed illuminated fountains as early as 1922. Since the 1980s there is a light and music performance.

 

FLAMENCO

Flamenco is a form of Spanish folk music and dance from the region of Andalusia in southern Spain. It includes cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance) and palmas (handclaps).

                                                      

 

GATE OF EUROPE (PUERTA DE EUROPA)

The Gate of Europe towers (Spanish: Puerta de Europa), also known as KIO Towers (Torres KIO), are twin office buildings in Madrid, Spain. The towers have a height of 114 m (374 ft) and have 26 floors. They were constructed from 1989 to 1996. The Puerta de Europa is the second tallest twin towers in Spain.

 

                                        

 

PUENTE ROMANO - MÉRIDA

The Puente Romano (Roman Bridge) is a Roman bridge over the Guadiana River at Mérida. It is the longest surviving bridge from ancient times, having once featured an estimated overall length of 755 m with 62 spans. Today, there are 60 spans (three of which are buried on the southern bank) on a length of 721 m between the abutments. Including the approaches, the structure totals 790 m.

 

PARC GÜELL IN BARCELONA

Park Güell is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of El Carmel in the Gràcia district of Barcelona. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It has an extension of 17.18 ha, which makes it one of the largest architectural works in south Europe. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Works of Antoni Gaudí"

 

 

 SURFING IN SPAIN

Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer towards the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are primarily found in the ocean. You can find a lot of good surf spots in Spain.
